I have always been interested in exploring and working with diverse materials and techniques: ceramics, printmaking, painting, knitting, and mixed media. I enjoy exploring the relationship between materials. Whether it is incorporating multiple media into one piece or giving new meaning to existing objects.
With each subject I chose the medium that will best help me create my idea. It can be sequins to show the dazzling feathers of a hummingbird or a map as the backdrop for a scene. In each series I advance my exploration of mixing media and continue to delve into myself, and the outside world for my subject matter and inspiration.
Most recently my work has focused on fiber arts, specifically knit wear and spinning, as well as making brooms and baskets. Even though these mediums are different, there is a thread that connects them. There are aspects of weaving that are found in brooms, baskets and fiber garments. My hands have a connection to the natural fibers in all these crafts. There is a sense of history in the processes and as an artist it speaks to be connecting the past and the future together through creating these useful and beautiful objects.
