Hawk's Tail Whisk Workshop
Join us at Gather in Sebastopol for a hands-on workshop where tradition meets artistry. Alissa Kaplan, maker and founder of Ziz Land Atelier, will guide you through the craft of broom making as you create your own Hawk Tail Whisk—a beautiful and functional hand broom with deep roots in American folk tradition.
In this 3-hour class, you’ll learn:
A brief history and uses of hand brooms
Traditional Shaker/Appalachian binding and wrapping techniques
How to select and prepare broomcorn for a whisk
Step-by-step guidance to craft your own wrapped Hawk Tail Whisk to take home
Whether you’re drawn to heritage crafts, seasonal rituals, or simply love working with your hands, this workshop offers a meaningful way to connect with timeless skills and leave with something useful and beautiful.
Some hand strength is required. Material and tools will be supplied.
